ODESSA, TX (Big 2 News) -- The true spirit of “Mojo” at Permian High is being celebrated!

PHS administrators held the inaugural "Tough Cats Recognition Celebration" Tuesday morning. The newly created "Tough Cat" award honors students who have overcome obstacles, hardships, or tragedies to still succeed.

Students and staff enjoyed a hamburger lunch and cake at the celebration. And each student was presented with an award certificate along with a T-shirt.

29 Permian students earned the "Tough Cat" award this year. One administrator was even moved to tears as she spoke about one "Tough Cat" award recipient.

School administrators say they plan to make this an annual event and next year they hope to unveil a similar award for Odessa High School students.
