Odessa Attorney Earns State-Wide Award

An Odessa attorney is hailed as one of the best in the state for her dedication to children.
ODESSA, TX (LOCAL BIG 2 NEWS) -- An Odessa attorney is hailed as one of the best in the state for her dedication to children.

Margarita Marmolejo, an assistant attorney general in the Child Support Division’s Odessa office, is named the Assistant Attorney General of the Year.

The AG Office selected her out of assistant AGs across the state.

Here are the full details of the award from the State Attorney General’s Office:

Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott recognized Margarita Marmolejo, an assistant attorney general in the Child Support Division’s Odessa office, for her commitment to Texas children. Marmolejo was named Assistant Attorney General of the Year for the Child Support Division’s El Paso region, which covers 21 counties. First Assistant Attorney General Daniel Hodge presented the award to Marmolejo on Tuesday at the Statewide Assistant Attorneys General Conference in Austin.

“Through hard work and dedication, Margarita Marmolejo has helped improve the lives of thousands of young Texans and their families,” Attorney General Abbott said. “We are grateful to Margarita for her commitment to Texas children and her service to the State.”

Deputy for Child Support Charles Smith selected one assistant attorney general from each of the state’s nine child support regions, along with an assistant attorney general from the main office in Austin. Honorees are chosen based on recommendations from their peers and supervisors, with a particular focus on employees who are willing to go beyond their normal duties to serve Texas children. Each recipient demonstrates a desire to serve Texas families, help their colleagues and enhance the Attorney General’s Child Support Division.

Marmolejo, who joined the Office of the Attorney General in 2010, became the Odessa office’s managing attorney in 2011. As managing attorney, she represents the State of Texas in legal actions to establish paternity between children of unmarried parents and their biological fathers. She also works to establish, enforce and modify court orders that require parents to provide child support and medical support.

Marmolejo, a graduate of Drake University Law School, was chosen to be the region’s Assistant Attorney General of the Year because she is a serious and dedicated employee who sets an example of high achievement to her peers. In addition, she is an innovative thinker who ensures the legal process is working efficiently and effectively.

“Ms. Marmolejo consistently demonstrates an exceptional ability to implement systematic processes to identify and analyze problems prior to proposing solutions, as well as making certain that the necessary people are involved in the process,” said Regional Administrator Tom Casarez. “She leads her staff by example and rolls up her sleeves to assist with various tasks, from scanning to indexing and helping the greeter. She has a contagious can-do attitude that all her staff display.”

The Attorney General’s Child Support Division offers an array of services to help families, including locating absent parents; establishing paternity for children born to unmarried parents; establishing, enforcing and modifying child and medical support orders; and collecting and distributing child support payments.
