San Antonio, Tuesday, May 12, 2014 - The Southwest Texas Region of the American Red Cross has been asked to send two Emergency Response Vehicles (ERV's) to the Texas Panhandle to aid with the wildfires that continue to spread across the plains.

Of the two vehicles being sent, one is based out of New Braunfels, the other is based out of Midland. These two vehicles were called into service late last night. This morning at approximately 10:30 the two Emergency Response Vehicles were deployed. These teams are heading north to Hutchinson Co. where the towns of Fritch and Sanford have already been evacuated.

The Southwest Texas Region has one ERV returning from Little Rock, Arkansas tonight at approximately 6:30/7:30 pm. This ERV will be serviced and prepped in case it is called to aid in the Amarillo area as well. An ERV crew has been placed on stand by and is ready to deploy if called upon.

"The Red Cross is here to serve," said Rafael Aviles Regional Communications Manager for the Southwest Texas Region. "We serve our home town first. But when we are called upon to mobilize, our volunteers are like a well-oiled machine. They are some very special Texans!"
