A man passing through Big Spring chased and later killed a Big Spring man who had stolen his mother’s truck, Big Spring Police said.

James Ketch called 911 Saturday night and said a man has stolen his mother’s truck from the TA Truck Stop in the area of 704 W. Interstate 20, authorities said.

Ketch told dispatch he was following the truck westbound on the North Service Road of I.H. 20 from the Truck Stop, police said.

Ketch then told dispatch had turned North on Hwy 176 (Andrews Highway) and speeds were reaching 105 mph, the release from police said.

The truck then came to a stop about one mile north of County Road 2599 on Hwy 176.

Bobby Gene Bricker, from Big Spring, was driving the stolen truck and after stopping, was shot by Ketch, police said.

When the Big Spring Police Department, Howard County Sheriff’s Office and Emergency Medical Services arrived, Bricker was pronounced dead.

“Based upon the investigation and available evidence investigators determined the shooting was not justified by Ketch. Ketch was taken into custody and later charged with Murder,” Big Spring Police said in a statement.
This investigation is ongoing.
