A SWAT team was called Tuesday after the 28-year-old man threatened to kill himself, according to the Odessa Police.

The woman who reported the incident said that her ex-boyfriend threatened to kill himself. She told police that he had several firearms and multiple guns, police said.

“The suicidal subject stated to officers that he wanted the police to kill him,” Odessa Police said. “For safety reasons, neighbors were evacuated and streets were blocked off to keep traffic and pedestrians out of the area.”

The area included Brady Station Apartments on 4110 East 53rd Street in Odessa.

The Odessa Police SWAT Team and Crisis Negotiation Team were there and negotiators were able to talk the man into surrendering, police said.

There were no injuries and no charges were filed.
