HEB Gives $20,000 to Feed Kids in Need

HEB donates $20,000 to the “Food 2 Kids” program.
ODESSA, TX (LOCAL BIG 2 NEWS) -- HEB donates $20,000 to the “Food 2 Kids” program.

The supermarket chain presented the check Thursday morning at its Odessa store.

HEB customers selected the non-profit. Over the last two months, customers had the opportunity to vote for their favorite children’s charity and out of hundreds of entries “Food 2 Kids” received the most support.

HEB says the check will be able to feed about 225 children in need for the entire year.
"The community of Odessa supports HEB very well and this is just one small way that we can give back to the community who does support us,” explained David Dowd with HEB.

The “Food 2 Kids” program provides weekend food sacks to about 1,100 students.

Organizers say those students would otherwise have nothing between their school lunches Friday and school breakfasts Monday.

"Food 2 Kids" is a partnership between the West Texas Food Bank and the Junior League of Odessa.
