Gun Found at Midland High Campus

MISD Superintendent Ryder Warren says a gun was found in a vehicle on the Midland High School campus today.
Midland, TX (Big 2 News) - A gun was found at a Midland ISD campus Wednesday.

Superintendent Ryder Warren sent out a release detailing why the student with the gun in not being disciplined.

Warren says a student called ahead, alerting campus authorities that she needed to park a rental car in the student parking area.

Warren says this is necessary since all students are assigned parking permits.

When the student was parked at the campus, she found a loaded gun in the glove compartment of the rental.

Warren says the student notified her parents and school authorities about the gun.

MISD police confiscated the weapon, and called the rental car agency to corroborate the student's story.

The agency contacted the previous person that rented the car, and he confirmed that he had forgotten his handgun in the vehicle and then returned it.

The superintendent says no students were in any danger, and the student who alerted authorities will not be disciplined because she wasn't aware that the gun was in her possession.
