Odessa, TX (Local big 2 News) - Big Spring Crime Stoppers is now offering a $19-thousand dollar reward for information leading to an arrest of a crime that still shakes the community.

"It got everybody involved, the ladies and elderly women, and there's just a lot of care and concern over there," Susan Rogers, executive director for Odessa Crime Stoppers.

During a press conference Thursday morning, Big Spring Police Chief chad Williams announced residents and local business owners donated to the crime stoppers reward.

It's this type of community concern that has touched the victim's family.

"We just appreciate all the people who are showing how much they love her. And there are just hundreds, and hundreds and hundreds," said Virginia Meek, the victim's sister.

It was a crime one week ago that left an 85-year-old woman left for dead on the street after being stabbed and sexually assaulted.

"It really shows you what that community is made of you know, when a crime like this happens, it shows the compassion that a community has," Rogers said.

According to Rogers, the general reward amount is usually much smaller.

"The thousand-dollars is typically the max that any crime stopper program will pay," Rogers said.

According to Big Spring Police officials, Howard County Crime Stoppers has partnered with Odessa Crime Stoppers to help catch the suspect.

"The thing that we know is right now it was random," Williams said.

However, it may be a while before the community can receive closure, as processing DNA evidence takes time.

"Anywhere from weeks to several months," Williams said.
