And it was moment for the community to come together and enjoy each other's company.

"This is the biggest best one we've had yet. We've raised m ore money to put it on. The fireworks are bigger than we've had before. The band's as good as we've had," said Bobby Burns, president and CEO of the Midland Chamber of Commerce.

So what the does Fourth of July mean to you?

"Support our troops!" yelled a Midland resident.

"It's about the town and the soldiers," said Avery, Midland resident.

Last year the city had more than 1400 people attend the Star-Spangled Salute, this year, it could be just as many.

From the 28 food vendors, the kids zone inside with games and concerts outside, there was something for everyone.

"This is a very patriotic community, we love America. This is middle America. Midland America, This is really a part of our culture," Burns said.

But Midlanders remember the reason we celebrate.

"Fourth of July means that we're living in the greatest country there is and we need to keep it safe and we need to work hard to keep it free," Les Oppermann, a Midland resident.

"It means a lot because that's when we got the independence from Britain," said Haley Tolbert, a Midland resident.

It's a time to remember our veterans who sacrificed for our freedom and those currently serving.

"It's also to recognize my son, my father and my uncle who all served overseas, it means a lot to me and my family," said Michael Black, a Midland resident.

"I'm so thankful that we have freedom in this country to raise our children the way that we want to and freedom to worship."
