Family of Elderly Big Spring Woman Who Survived Stabbing Speaks Out

Big Spring, TX (Local Big 2 News) - "She's been a caretaker all of her life and she still is doing that," said Pastor john McCullough of Berea Baptist Church.

McCullough still has questions about what happened to his mother in law.

Big Spring Police says the elderly woman was stabbed, sexually assaulted and left for dead on the side of the road last Thursday.

"The shock was unbearable of What happened. it's still hard to believe. Even seeing her," said Freida Wilson, the victim's sister.

The victim is being called Rose, as her real name is not being released.

Rose's sisters flew in from Arkansas to be by her side as she recovers at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa.

"She just cared for people. when they're sick she just goes and visits with them," said Virginia Meek, Rose's other sister.

McCullough tells me the feeling within the community in Big Spring is still uneasy.

"They're very concerned about their safety. I've heard a number of our elderly people say they are taking extra precaution now since this happened," McCullough said.

But both Wilson and Meek tell me it's the support from the community that keeps them strong.

"It's amazing, we're so grateful for the tens of thousands of people that are praying," Meek said.

Messages from across the globe have also been received through Rose's church website, which is documenting her recovery.

"We have messages coming across out Internet website as far as from New Zealand and Australia," McCullough said.

It's little words of encouragement that mean the world to Rose's family.

"Not only is it helping her, but it's helping us also," Wilson said.
