Chipotle Excitement in Midland

A new Chipotle location opened in Midland Thursday. The first person in line waited almost two hours to get the first spot.
The first person in line at the new Chipotle in Midland waited almost two hours.

“I have this thing about being first so I wanted to make sure that I was there first,” said Midland resident Ben Mayberry.

Mayberry considers himself a “ginormous fan of Chipotle.”

“I'll choose it over Longhorn Steakhouse, BJ's where ever as long as there is a Chipotle near, I'm there,” he said.

But he is not the only one.

“I've been waiting for this to open for about five years so I've been anticipating this opening for a while,” said Midland resident Michael Dixon.

Dixon went even further and took his request to corporate.

“I've emailed them for years telling them they should come here because we have so much money and we are willing to spend it on food,” Dixon said.

Another group created a Facebook page in 2011, asking the fast food restaurant to come to Midland and Odessa.

“I think it might have influenced quite a bit,” said the page’s administrator, Kevin Dawson.

On Thursday, the page had almost 600 likes.

“I know everybody is just as excited that it's finally here and you don’t have to wait as long,” Dawson said.

Even the manager is surprised with the turnout in the Tall City.

"There's been so much buzz surrounding this Chipotle opening. We've had an incredible turnout with at times, lines out the door, but we're serving our guests quickly,” said manager Amber Buchanan. “In just four hours we've served about 300 people and we anticipate dinner will be just as lively."

The Chipotle restaurant in Odessa is slated to open in early May.
