Big Spring's 2014 Pops in the Park

Big Spring's Pops in the Park celebrates the Fourth of July a day early.
BIG SPRING, TX, (Local Big 2 News) - On Friday, people around the country will celebrate America's Independence Day with community events and fireworks. In Big Spring, West Texans enjoyed a celebration, the city's annual pops in the park celebration.

Big Spring's Pops in the Park, was in danger of being scaled back due to slower than usual donations. However, thanks to some last minute generosity from area businesses, this year's event was able to bring in visitors from as far away as Lubbock and Amarillo.  People could come out and celebrate with live music, plenty of food, and it was all in anticipation of the fireworks display happening right about now. Several military veterans enjoyed the festivities and celebrating our country's freedom.  One man, who's son serves in the Armed Forces far from home spoke about his pride in our country.

"He's a Corpsman for the Navy in Camp Lejeune in North Carolina, and it just makes me proud, everyday that I know he's serving our country," says Brian Kates.

Big Spring's Chamber of Commerce is now already hard at work collecting money for next year's Pops in the Park, in hopes it will be a success.
