Accidents Claim Three Lives this Weekend

Road accidents took the life of three people this weekend. Accidents happened in Carlsbad, New Mexico, Ector County and Wink County.
A man was killed in rollover accident on Sunday near Carlsbad, New Mexico.

New Mexico State Police says the accident happened near Smedley Road and Tidwell Road.

A pickup truck traveling east on Smedley Road drifted and drove onto the shoulder, authorities said.

The driver then overcorrected and struck a steel pole. Killed was 38-year-old Abel Anaya of Carlsbad.

Anaya died on the scene, and police says he was not wearing his seat belt.

Alcohol appears to be a factor in the accident, authorities said. This investigation remains ongoing.


In a second accident, a New Mexico man lost his life Saturday.

The 24-year-old man crashed while traveling westbound on Business 20 on Saturday night.

Authorities say Brian Bray left the roadway, and then overcorrected, causing his car to overturn.

He was not wearing a seat belt and authorities continue to investigate the crash.


In a third accident, a 28-year-old man lost his life Saturday.

Authorities say this accident also left 4 people injured.

Reports show a car traveling westbound on SH 302 veered of the roadway onto the shoulder, and continued to travel westbound.

The driver tried to re-enter the roadway, but instead caused the car to slide and roll several times.

Jose Montoya, who was sitting in the back was ejected from the car and pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said.
