MIDLAND, TX (Big 2 New) -- The Permian Basin Workforce Development Board awarded $325,000 in scholarships for child care & development training.

Here's the full details from the Permian Basin Workforce Development Board:

On Thursday, May 8, the three Permian Basin community colleges-Howard College, Midland College and Odessa College-will host a press conference to announce over $300,000 in scholarship awards from the Permian Basin Workforce Development Board. The press conference will be held in the Scharbauer Student Center Carrasco Room on the Midland College campus, 3600 N. Garfield, Midland, at 11:00 a.m.

The Permian Basin Workforce Development Board (PBWDB) is awarding the scholarships in order to improve the quality of child care offered in Permian Basin facilities. PBWDB believes that trained/skilled caregivers can have the greatest impact on the care provided to area children. Quality child care has a long-term impact on the lives of children and positively impacts society by reducing the dropout rates and incarceration rates, and children are less likely to repeat a grade when they enter elementary school.
