BIG SPRING, TX (Local Big 2 News) - Nearly $20,000 will go to the first person who calls with information that leads to an arrest in the case of an elderly woman who was sexually assaulted, stabbed and left for dead in Big Spring last week, according to police.

Police on Thursday announced that residents and businesses had anonymously donated over $19,000 to the Howard County Crime Stoppers unit since a brutal attack that sent an 85-year-old woman to the hospital, where she continues to recover, according to family members. Hear from her family in this previous report.

Authorities say they are "confident" an arrest can be made soon, based on tips from the community, as the investigation continues. Detectives have collected evidence from the scene and are awaiting a DNA analysis, which takes some time, police said at a Thursday press conference. Police believe the DNA will help them develop a suspect.

Police began an investigation after finding an 85-year-old woman with stab wounds on the side of the road near Radio Tower Road, back on July 17.

"The person responsible for these crimes needs to be located and taken into custody as soon as possible, " Big Spring police said in a statement during Thursday's press conference.

"The Big Spring police department is working tirelessly on this case and is investigating any and all leads."

Anyone with information on this crime is asked to call the Howard County Crimestoppers at 432-263- TIPS (8477), or Odessa Crime Stoppers at 432-333-TIPS (8477).
