Big Spring, TX (Big 2 News) - "Yeah, you can smell it sometimes, it smell like sewer," said Sondra Williams.

Williams says she's been seeing water flowing near her house for weeks now.

And a blocked a sewer line only added to the problem.

According to Johnny Womack, public works director for the City of Big Spring, a common house hold item blocked up the line.

"Quite honestly it was a couple sheets," Womack said.

Womack says in order to clear the sewer lines, crews had to flush fresh water must flow through it.

"We end up with t-shirts and sheets all kinds of stuff being sent down through the sewer lines and as with any rag and sewer lines in general, rags will clog them up," Womack said.

But residents who've been seeing the after math of flowing trails of water say they didn't even know about the problem from Friday as they constantly smell a strong scent from a nearby lake.

"I don't think we would have noticed 'cause that smell is pretty, pretty strong," Mariah McGruder said.

According to Womack, the sewer water flowed into some private land in Howard County

"Staff went over there and we're flushing it with fresh water and then we'll go back tomorrow and reevaluate the site and make sure and see if there's something else we need to do," Womack said.
